Summerland, Preity Please!

Preity Zinta turned up all of a sudden on CBS Love! A channel I daresay I can associate with her. I expect her to be in commericals or even an IPL advertisement for that matter. But she managed to do something totally opposite instead. She showed up to promote Summerland - a series that is to begin sometime next week or so.

Now, Preity is a lovely woman. She doesn't even need to make an effort to smile for it comes naturally to her. And the charm she latches her words to is very infectious: You have to be a stone - or a coldblooded fellow or feline - to not smile and nod as she does when she says what she has to.

So that's what she did as she took us - me, rather - through the ups and downs and the feelings and emotions that Summerland promises to draw you in to. She did not paste an accent in to the audio track nor did she try to act as if she had just shifted residences and was away in California. She was simple and elegant in her exultation about Summerland. And as the teaser neared its end, she fluttered her eyelashes.

That's also when I concluded that, quite frankly, the series does not quite appear promising nor does it have a brand new story to tell. You have seen it all in the form of Raising Helen and Stepmom, and several sitcoms about sassy aunts raising their orphaned nieces and nephews. The acting is just about average and rises nowhere close to being called real. And finally, the script makes love to every cliche known to television.

But... even so... just because Preity Zinta showed up to plead its case, I will watch at least one episode of Summerland on CBS Love. :)
